Leicester City are set to win the race to sign Leeds United target Jarrod Bowen during the January transfer window, according to a report from the Sunday Mirror (15/12; page 72).
Bowen’s future appears to have a major question mark hanging over it heading into January. The 22-year-old has been sensational for Hull City again this season, scoring 15 goals in the Championship.
Unsurprisingly, he is attracting a lot of attention. The Sunday Mirror (15/12; page 72) reports that Marcelo Bielsa is massively keen on signing the £10 million-rated forward as his Leeds side continue their push for promotion.
But it appears that Bowen could end the upcoming window as a Premier League player. The report suggests that Leicester are set to be the side to win the race to sign Bowen.
TBR View – Boost for Foxes; blow for Leeds
Bowen has been outstanding for three seasons. He has scored 51 league goals in 110 second tier appearances for the Tigers – and the large majority of those goals have come with Bowen playing out wide.
You could understand why some Leeds supporters would feel that signing Bowen would almost guarantee promotion. The Whites’ problem for much of this season has been turning their dominance into goals, but Bowen can be ruthless.
But Leeds’s apparent loss will seemingly be Leicester’s gain. Brendan Rodgers’s men are flying this season – like Leeds, they sit second in their division – and they could end Sunday seven points clear of Manchester City.
Landing a player of Bowen’s calibre would be a further boost to the Foxes. It looks more than likely that they will be back playing European football again next year.
It is something of a gamble given that he is yet to really prove himself at the highest level. But his form in the Championship is surely too good for Bowen to not be able to thrive in the top flight.
And it appears that Leicester are going to be the ones to give him that chance to prove himself.
