Report: Leicester set to beat Arsenal in race to sign Celtic striker Edouard

The Daily Mail have claimed that Leicester City are close to completing a deal to sign Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard for a fee of £15million – as Brendan Rodgers raids his old side ahead of Arsenal and Roma.

Edouard, 23, has rediscovered his shooting boots of late – scoring nine goals in the club’s last nine Scottish Premiership fixtures. This season, he has 20 goals in 32 games, and has overall stats of 81 in 160.

Considered one of the best talents in Scottish football, Edouard is expected to leave Celtic this summer and it looks as if Leicester boss Rodgers is set to win the race. The report claims a £15million fee is set to be agreed.

If that is the case, then Leicester and Rodgers are set to beat Arsenal and Roma to his signature – as per the report. A fee is close to being agreed and despite being ‘courted’ by the latter duo, Edouard wants to play for Rodgers.

TBR’s view – Leicester an excellent move for Edouard

He is made for the Premier League, and he has the quality. Moving to Serie A would be a waste this early in his footballing career – but Arsenal would see Edouard struggle for regular game time, and therefore momentum.

Arsenal were likely to be tempted by Edouard, after the success of Kieran Tierney. But with Alexandre Lacazette, Eddie Nketiah, Gabriel Martinelli and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, game time would have been limited.

Joining Leicester would be an ideal move for Celtic, given that Jamie Vardy is 34.
