Report: Leicester looking to beat others to Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

Leicester City are keen on landing Southampton midfielder, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

According to a report from Danish publication Ekstra Bladet, the Foxes are keen on taking Hojbjerg from the Saints as he only has 18 months left on his current deal.

That could potentially open the door for Brendan Rodgers to make a move for the 24-year-old, who has been key behind the Saints’ revival under Ralph Hassenhuttl this term.

Hojbjerg was linked with a move to Spurs in the dying few days of the transfer window. However, nothing materialised on that front, leaving Hojbjerg still on the books at St Mary’s.

Celtic fans left short-changed by Sky Sports once again

The Dane has played all 23 games in the Premier League for Southampton this term. He’s built well on a good showing last term, where he scored four times in 31 appearances.

However, the Saints might well be forced to cash in on the midfielder. Come the summer, Hojbjerg will only have 12 months remaining on his deal.

That, plus Leicester’s potential Champions League qualification, could well lead to a deal being struck.

A quality signing in the Leicester mould – TBR View

Leicester have made a habit of signing younger players in recent years who have gone on to be successful.

The likes of Wilfred Ndidi, James Maddison, and Harry Maguire have all arrived in Leicester in recent times. All three, amongst others, have been a success for the Foxes.

Hojbjerg, then, will fit the mould perfectly for Leicester and Rodgers.

A midfielder who can get box to box and still young enough to improve further, he’d slot in nicely for the Foxes.

Furthermore, with James Maddison being linked with a move away, H0jbjerg could well plug a gap, too.

Southampton, of course, won’t want to lose one of their better players. However, with 12 months left, they could be in a position where selling is in their best interests.
