Report: Leicester look to steal Bertrand Premier League ace from under Arsenal's noses
With Boubacary Soumare close to completing his move to Leicester City, the Foxes are considering a move for soon-to-be free agent Ryan Bertrand.
According to The Telegraph, Brendan Rodgers’ side are set to offer the Southampton man a transfer to the King Power Stadium. The are claiming that the left-back is seeking a two-year deal, but, he proves to be a long-term target for Rodgers and a compromise is likely to be reached.
However, the east Midlanders aren’t the only Premier League side to have registered an interest in the fullback with Arsenal also in talks to sign the ace.
Bertrand isn’t the side’s only option for the left-side of defence with Atalanta’s Robin Gosens and Sporting CP’s Nuno Mendes also target. And the team are also in the market for a striker with Odsonne Edouard a target for the former Celtic manager since his arrival back in 2019.
TBR View: Bertrand would represent more fantastic business
Everything about Leicester’s rise to the top four of the Premier League has been about their transfer business. It’s all well and good praising Rodgers for the work he’s done since his move from Scotland, rightly so, but, none of it would be even remotely possible without some of the acquisitions.
Wilfried Ndidi, Ayoze Perez, Wesley Fofana, Caglar Soyuncu, James Maddison and many more have all proven to be astute signings in the transfer market.
The potential of Bertrand is another one that would further enhance the club’s reputation as one of the best teams in terms of transfer business in the country.
His experience in the English top-flight means he can come in and Shepperd much of the first-team squad, helping to improve their qualities similar to how Jonny Evans has done so since his arrival.
Then there’s his trophy-winning experience. Making your debut in the Champions League final, and ending up on the winning side, is a daunting task, but, the defender’s performance showed off a great deal of courage and ability. Not to forget he would be available on a free transfer, which would save the club a ton of money during uncertain times.
Bertrand ticks all the boxes for the Foxes, and his potential arrival would open doors for Rodgers’ desire to strengthen more pressing areas like upfront.
