Report: Leicester considering Kabasele as potential Maguire replacement

According to the Daily Mail, Leicester City are considering Watford’s Christian Kabasele as a potential replacement for Harry Maguire.

Manchester United have reached an agreement with Foxes to sign Maguire for £80 million, a world record for a defender, as reported by the BBC.

Brendan Rodgers will therefore have to find a replacement for the England man. Maguire was a key figure at the King Power Stadium last season, and will be tough to replace. However, given the funds raised from the 26-year-old’s sale, Rodgers will have plenty of cash with which to source a new centre-back.

Watford’s Kabasele appears to have caught the eye of the Northern Irish manager. The 28-year-old joined the Hornets from Genk in 2016. He has been consistently impressing in the Premier League ever since.

The twice-capped Belgium international’s quality may have gone somewhat under the radar though. He is not a spectacular defender. Instead, he does the basics very well on a consistent basis. He would certainly be a reliable replacement for Maguire. He may not maraud forward in the manner that is the Englishman’s trademark, but he’ll be solid at the back.

A deal to bring Kabasele to Leicester would also leave plenty of funds left over for Rodgers to invest elsewhere in his squad.
