Leicester City are said to be interested in signing Sporting Lisbon youngster, Nuno Mendes, who has a £40m release-clause in his current contract.
That is according to Lisbon based publication, CM Sport, who claim Leicester are keen on signing Mendes.
The Foxes are said to be keen on pursuing a deal for Mendes before Lisbon manage to tie him to an even newer contract than that he signed in the summer, with Sporting said to be looking to increase his release-clause to around £70m.
Mendes has impressed on the European scene in the last six months or so and has previously drawn admiring glances from the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool, with O’Jogo claiming in September that Mikel Arteta was keen on the youngster.
18-year-old Mendes is one of the highest rated players in Portugal at the moment and has already made the step into the Portugal under-21 squad in the last few months.
Leicester are still seeking another full-back following the sale of Ben Chilwell, despite the summer signing of Timothy Castagne.
A fine young player, Mendes fits the mold for Rodgers – TBR View
The teenager is exactly the type of player who would fit in with Leicester, especially given Rodgers’ record at developing young talent.
You only have to look at the start Wesley Fofana has made, while the likes of Harvey Barnes have developed well at the Foxes in recent times.
Mendes is clearly a huge talent and with a gap in the XI at left-back, he might just get a chance quickly if he does decide to make the move to the Premier League.
