Leicester City have reportedly made an approach to sign Brazilian international Gabriel Barbosa from Flamengo, according to reports.
‘Gabigol’, as he is known, is seemingly a target for the Foxes, who are looking to add some extra firepower to their attack.
According to ESPN, Leicester have already made contact regarding a potential deal for the player but it will not be an easy deal to get done.
Flamengo are said to be opposed to the sale and would only consider it if Leicester pay his release clause.
As reported by AS in January, after Gabigol made his move from Inter Milan to Flamengo permanent, that clause currently stands at €60 million (£54.5m).
Leicester fans will no doubt remember being linked with the Brazilian before. Back in 2016, as reported by The Guardian, then Premier League champions Leicester made a £23 million move for the promising striker, who had been catching the eye in his homeland with Santos.
Inter Milan won that transfer battle with Leicester eventually spending big on Islam Slimani instead.
Gabigol struggled at Inter but has got his career back on track in Brazil. He scored 43 goals in the 2019 campaign as Flamengo won the Copa Libertadores and has continued that form.
Whilst he would undoubtedly be an exciting addition for Leicester there is no doubt his current asking price is out of their current range.
But should there be some wiggle room found, then a deal would be an exciting one for Brendan Rodgers’ side.
