Report: Leicester City eye Florian Thauvin as Cengiz Under fails to impress
Leicester City could be ready to make a summer move for former Newcastle United flop, Florian Thauvin, as Brendan Rodgers eyes new players.
Eurosport claims that Rodgers has been less than impressed with the impression made by Roma loanee, Cengiz Under, and that Thauvin represents an ideal replacement for the Foxes.
Formerly of Newcastle, where he was deemed a huge flop, Thauvin has excelled with Marseille in France. He has 85 goals in Ligue 1, while he’s also contributed a further 50 assists in his time with the French giants. (Transfermarkt)
It’s claimed that Leicester can buy Under for £22m in the summer. But his form and overall impression looks like ensuring that move doesn’t happen.
Tuttomercato web claimed back in the summer that Marseille wanted around £13.5m for Thauvin. At that time, both Aston Villa and Leicester were said to be keen. But Villa have since signed Morgan Sanson, leaving the route open for the Foxes to now move.

Everyone will remember Thauvin’s name from his failed spell with Newcastle. But since then, he’s flourished, winning ten caps for France and becoming one of Marseille’s best players.
At 28, the time really is now if he is to move back to England in his prime years and prove himself. Leicester is a good club to do that with as well, given their manager and style of football.
For Cengiz Under, it looks like a case of just being a move that hasn’t quite worked out. Thauvin, then, could be perfect as a replacement,
