Leicester City are one of three clubs cashing a promising Serie A striker. According to Calciomercato, Andrea Petagna is on Leicester’s wishlist.
Petagna currently plays for SPAL on loan from Atalanta. SPAL have an option to buy him for around £9m. And they will trigger this option, even if it means selling him on for a profit.
Three clubs are battling for Petagna when he joins SPAL. Interestingly, one of those teams is Atalanta. If Duvan Zapata leaves, they could immediately re-sign Petagna.
But Lazio and Leicester City will provide competition for the 23-year-old. Petagna is not short of admirers this summer and a move to the Premier League could be on the cards.
Petagna scored an impressive 17 goals in 37 games last season, helping SPAL to a 13th-place finish in Serie A. This followed a spell at Atalanta, where he scored 11 in 75.
The once-capped Italy international could now be on the move this summer. Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers is weighing up his attacking options and Petagna is on their radar.
Petagna has a promising goalscoring record in Serie A and could be a shrewd signing. But according to this report, he would cost around £18m to sign, which represents an expensive risk.
Rodgers will weigh up his options in attack and Leicester probably need one more striker to compete with Jamie Vardy. Kelechi Iheanacho and Islam Slimani are the other options for the Foxes but Petagna would be an upgrade on them if he can quickly adapt to English football.
