England boss Gareth Southgate attended Elland Road to watch Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips as he considers whether to hand the 24-year-old a first international call-up, according to a report from the Daily Mail.
Phillips has been outstanding since Marcelo Bielsa came to Leeds ahead of the start of last season.
And he demonstrated his ability to shine against players from the highest level with an excellent performance against Arsenal in the FA Cup on Monday night.
His form has attracted the attention of the England boss. The Daily Mail reports that Phillips is under consideration for a place in his next squad in March.
Southgate was watching on as Leeds lost 2-0 against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday. It was not Phillips’s finest performance, but perhaps it would be no surprise if he was on the radar throughout the coming weeks.
TBR View – Phillips look to have international potential
Whether Phillips makes the England squad at the next opportunity or not, it looks inevitable that the Whites academy graduate will be playing at the highest level at some stage.
Plenty of Leeds fans feel that Phillips will definitely be playing in the top flight next season whether the Whites are there or not.
His display against the Gunners further suggested that he is ready for the Premier League.
And Leeds will be hoping that the prospect of forcing his way into the England squad in the near future may help bring the best out of Phillips during the coming weeks.
