Report: Leeds were in advanced talks over 'very fast' attacker, now Aston Villa have agreed £24m deal
Aston Villa have reportedly taken a big step towards beating the likes of Leeds United to Ismaila Sarr.
Footmercato claimed earlier this week that the Whites were in advanced talks over the Watford ace.
However, the French outlet has now reported a significant breakthrough involving the Villans.
Apparently, Villa have reached verbal agreement with Watford over Sarr.
Journalist Santi Aouna has reported that Villa are set to pay a €28m (£24m) fee for the 24-year-old.
There is also a 15 percent sell-on clause in the deal, added Footmercato.
Villa and Leeds aren’t the only clubs reportedly eyeing Sarr, however.
The likes of Manchester United and Crystal Palace are apparently keen on the Senegal international too.
Newcastle United have also been linked with Sarr, who is apparently looking for a swift Premier League return.
“A really good player”
Sarr is a player of the highest calibre who would bolster the ranks of any Premier League squad.
The 24-year-old mostly plays on the right flank, but can also feature centrally.
Sarr is also proven at Premier League level, impressing in the top flight last season for a struggling Watford side.
Three years ago, Sadio Mane – then at Liverpool – spoke of what he told Andrew Robertson about his compatriot.
“He’s rapid. I think defenders will struggle,” Mane told The Athletic.
“Last time I was speaking to Robbo, I said, ‘Watford have a really good player.
“I will need to help you more otherwise Ismaila Sarr will kill you, because he is a good dribbler and very, very fast.’”
