Report: Leeds want Orkun Kokcu; Man United legend Stam tipped him for great things
Leeds United are reportedly interested in signing Orkan Kokcu and could have a fine player on their hands, according to former Man United man, Jaap Stam.
La Razon claims Leeds are in the mix to sign Kokcu, who could be available for as little as £10m this summer.
The 21-year-old Turkish star has earned rave reviews over in Holland. His performances for Feyenoord have caught the eye and now Leeds, Sevilla, and Leicester are all said to be monitoring his situation.
And speaking to Goal just last year, former Manchester United stalwart Stam commended the quality Kokcu has, tipping him for big things.
“He has the ability. He is a player who has the personality to want to improve, he always wants to do better. He’s never happy with himself, he’s disappointed if he doesn’t score, or his passes aren’t good enough,” Stam told Goal.
“I put him in the first team and let him play most of the games, I trusted him and saw a lot of ability in him. Now he’s proving himself in Holland and is one of the best midfield players in the country. He’s certainly got the ability to make that step to the Premier League.”
Stam was speaking at the time amid reports that Arsenal were in the hunt for Kokcu. And while that interest seems to have cooled for now, it is Leeds who could well take advantage.
TBR View: £10m looks a snip for a player of Kokcu’s quality
In modern football you don’t get many top quality signings for around £10m so if the Feyenoord man is available, it looks like a no-brainer really for Marcelo Bielsa.
Leeds have been trying to add a central midfielder since last summer. Rodrigo De Paul has been heavily linked but will cost a big fee, meaning Kokcu looks a snip at £10m.
If this is one Leeds can get over the line, then it should prove a fine piece of business.
