Leeds United are interested in signing Leicester City winger Demarai Gray as the transfer deadline looms, according to a report from the Daily Mail.
The Mail reports that the Whites want to sign a midfielder and a winger during the final days of the window.
The club have, so far, signed the likes of Robin Koch, Rodrigo Moreno and Diego Llorente.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side are reportedly interested in Bayern Munich’s Michael Cuisance and Norwich City’s Todd Cantwell. But the Mail adds that Gray is also on their radar.
It is not clear how seriously Leeds are tracking the 24-year-old. But it would appear that Gray is one player who could well be on the move before the deadline passes.
The Daily Mail reported earlier this month that the Foxes were ready to sell him. The former Birmingham City youngster’s contract – worth £55,000-a-week, according to Spotrac – expires at the end of the season.
TBR View: Gray could be an inspired gamble for Leeds
Gray looks to be facing a crucial period in his career. He has shown glimpses of brilliance during his time at the King Power Stadium. However, he does not appear to have kicked on as many expected.
In fairness, his record last season was impressive. In 21 Premier League appearances – of which, only three were starts – he scored twice and contributed three assists.
And much may depend on what Leicester’s asking price may be.
But there is no question that he has the talent to be an inspired signing should he move. And unlocking that potential may be a challenge that Bielsa may be prepared to sign up for.
