Two Championship clubs are hot on the trail of Leeds United winger Mallik Wilks this summer. According to The Yorkshire Post, Barnsley and Hull City are interested in Wilks.

Leeds have recently signed three wingers – all on loan. Jack Harrison and Helder Costa have both signed loan deals with an option to buy. And Jack Clarke has returned on loan to Leeds after joining Tottenham Hotspur.

This could have an impact on Wilks’ first-team hopes. He is likely to be given pre-season to impress Marcelo Bielsa but another exit could be on the cards – either on loan or permanently.

Hull have recently appointed Grant McCann as their new manager. Last season, he was in charge of Doncaster Rovers, where he had Wilks on loan.

During that spell, he converted Wilks into a right winger, using his pace and power to cut inside and use his left foot to devastating effect. The 20-year-old scored 16 and provided 12 assists for Rovers.

McCann will attempt to bring him back if some of his key men, such as Jarrod Bowen and Kamil Grosicki, depart. But Barnsley will provide competition. The Tykes want another winger after signing Luke Thomas from Derby County.

Sell, keep or loan: What should Leeds do with Mallik Wilks?

Wilks needs to be given an opportunity in pre-season. The homegrown youngster has the ability to become a key player for Leeds in the near future and he lit up League One with his performances.

But the Whites have signed three wingers and they also have Ezgjan Alioski and Stuart Dallas. Wilks might not get a chance this season but Leeds should not get rid. If he does leave this summer, it should be on loan.
