More details are emerging regarding Leeds United’s apparent interest in Benfica talent Florentino Luis.

It was initially reported by TuttoMercatoWeb earlier this week that Leeds were keen on the Portuguese talent and could look to make a move for the player this summer. They suggested Leeds were ready to battle the likes of AC Milan for the player, who could cost anywhere between £18-£27 million.

Now, the reports are being ratified in the Portuguese press, with plenty suggesting that Leeds are very much interested in the player.

They are also detailing what sort of deal it would be and it seems Leeds would not be looking to spend that sort of money. Not yet anyway.

As reported by Mais Futebol, Leeds United will first approach Benfica with a season-long loan bid with an option to buy at the end of the season.

It could, therefore, be a similar deal to the one which saw Leeds pull in Helder Costa on loan from Wolves last summer whilst avoiding some FFP scrutiny.

The 20-year-old is considered one of Portugal’s brightest talents. However, he found himself out of the first-team last season, playing just 10 times in the league and 18 times overall.

Leeds United will, therefore, be hopeful of Benfica giving the thumbs up to this transfer approach which could end up being a brilliant piece of business from the West Yorkshire club.
