Report: Leeds United unwilling to pay Jose Campana transfer fee

Leeds United are believed to be on the hunt for a midfield playmaker who can play wide or through the middle and that hunt appears to have taken them to Levante, specifically for Jose Campana.

The former Crystal Palace midfielder has reignited his career in Spain after his disappointing spell at Selhurst Park and Leeds have been linked with a move for his services throughout the summer.

It was first reported by El Desmarque in July that Leeds were one of four Premier League teams keen on the player, with Victor Orta’s relationship with his agent a potential advantage.

This week, Super Deporte confirmed that Campana has held talks with Levante over an exit from the club, with Leeds interested alongside Sevilla and Villarreal.

However, the latest report from Spain has highlighted a major stumbling block in any potential move from Leeds for the player.

As reported by Plaza Deportivo, Leeds are not willing to pay the €30 million (£27.5m) asking price Levante have slapped on the 27-year-old. It is even claimed that Leeds will not negotiate with Levante and will instead continue looking at other options.

It appears that Leeds and Levante are far apart in their respective valuation of the player and have therefore decided to move on amicably.

Campana will still have plenty of options this summer but it seems he will not join compatriots Rodrigo Moreno and Diego Llorente in making the switch to Elland Road this summer.
