Report: Leeds United to bid £15m for Tottenham defender Juan Foyth

Leeds United are eyeing a £15 million raid on Tottenham to sign defender Juan Foyth, according to report by The Sun.

The Whites romped to the Championship title this season and will play in the Premier League for the first time since 2004 during 2020/21.

With that in mind, Marcelo Bielsa will hope to bolster his squad and Foyth would add some top-flight experience.

It is claimed in the report that Leeds want the Tottenham man regardless of whether or not they can lure Ben White back for another Elland Road stint.

The 22-year-old was instrumental last season but returns to Brighton, with boss Graham Potter keen to have a look at him during pre-season.

Leeds, however, are busy making plans for life without White and Foyth could prove a solid piece of business.

The Argentinean arrived in North London from Estudiantes for £8 million back in 2017. In three years with Spurs, he managed just 32 appearances, with just seven coming last season.

A move to play some football looks ideal and Leeds fancy him to be a big part of their summer rebuilding process.

A central defender will be high on Bielsa’s list of targets this summer. White has returned to his parent club and Gaetano Berardi has been ruled out for nine months with a cruciate ligament injury.

That leaves skipper Liam Cooper as the only senior central defender and the £21.5k-a-week enforcer would surely relish the opportunity to kickstart his career away from Tottenham.

TBR View – Foyth could prove a shrewd signing for Leeds

Some quotes via TyC suggest that the 22-year-old would welcome a Leeds move this summer.

Boca Juniors are interested in his services but the Tottenham fan would prefer to stay in Europe.

He told TyC: “My first option is to stay in Europe. I don’t think about going back to Argentina. Right now, it’s best to stay in Europe. It’s what I want, either a sale or a loan.”

Foyth has lost his way at Tottenham and needs to prove himself at a club that can give him regular football.

The 10-time international is what you’d call a modern-day central defender. He can play out from the back, keeps things neat and tidy and gets himself into good defensive positions.

Leeds aren’t blessed with an extensive portfolio of central defenders and he could quickly become a regular under Bielsa.

The Whites are a club on the up and it would give Foyth a real chance to be part of a special period at the football club.
