No fewer than three Italian clubs are thought to be tracking Leeds United striker Caleb Ekuban, according to Turkish outlet Takvim.

After two goals in 22 appearances for the Whites last season he was loaned out to Trabzonspor ahead of the 2018/19 campaign.

Playing out wide, in a number 10 role or as an out-and-out striker, Ekuban has netted seven goals and created three assists this season.

Leeds allowed a clause in the loan deal that gave Trabzonspor the chance to sign the forward in the summer for £900k and according to Turkish outlet Millyet, the club’s president will activate the clause.

Ekuban knows all about Italian football having come through the ranks with Chievo at the start of his career.

At this stage, Takvim seems unclear as to which sides in Italy are keen on the forward.

TBR Verdict

Given his form with Trabzonspor, there is every reason to suggest that Leeds might live to rue not handing Ekuban more of a chance.

At 25 he will still develop and he has shown in Turkey that he knows where the back of the net is.

It might not be the decision to let him leave that is the shock, but the permanent transfer fee seems low right now.

His impact in Turkey has dictated that Leeds could have perhaps recouped more for the man deemed surplus to requirements by Marcelo Bielsa.

Should he move to Italy, Ekuban will surely go for much more than the £900k that Trabzonspor are to pay for his permanent services.

An element of intrigue among the Leeds faithful comes as to which Italian clubs are actually actively pursuing his services.
