Leeds United are one of several clubs to have reportedly scouted talented young Dundee United defender Lewis Neilson, according to reports.

That is according to The Courier, who suggest Leeds are among four Premier League sides to have watched the 17-year-old in action against Celtic at the weekend, a game in which he impressed against the Scottish champions.

The teenager is a versatile operator, capable of playing at right-back or centre-back who actually started his footballing journey as a central midfielder.

But it will not be a straightforward deal for Leeds if they do decide to make a bid.

According to the report, the Scottish side would demand a seven-figure fee for a player who is under contract until 2023. Leeds would also face potential competition from Leicester City, Everton, and Southampton.

The deal would follow a recent trend from Leeds of snapping up talented young players with an eye firmly on the future.

Joe Gelhardt, Charlie Allen, Cody Drameh, and Dani van den heuvel have all arrived this summer and are likely to start their Leeds careers in the under-23 set-up. Neilson would also follow fellow Scottish youth stars Stuart McKinstry and Liam McCarron in making the jump to Thorp Arch if he did indeed end up a Leed player.

For now, it seems Leeds are simply operating a watching brief but the early signs are that Neilson has the potential to be a real gem. It might not be long before Leeds find themselves tempted to try and get in early to jump the gun on a potentially expensive transfer battle.
