Reports in Italy are suggesting that Leeds United are interested in the signature of Jhon Chancellor.

The reports first emerged in the print edition of Tuttosport earlier this week and now TuttoMercatoWeb is now commenting on the potential deal.

They claim that both Leeds and Brighton are interested in the Venezuelan international, who could be looking for a move following Brescia’s relegation to Serie B.

The deal would reportedly be worth between €4 and €5 million (£3.5m-£4.5m) but would also see Leeds having to do business with their former owner Massimo Cellino, who is now the supremo at the Italian outfit.

Of course, Leeds fans will immediately take the news with a pinch of salt.

The club recently snapped up Robin Koch to replace Ben White at the back and with regards to another potential defensive recruit, it appears that Croatian talent Josko Gvardiol is the player in Leeds United’s crosshairs.

Chancellor, who has 15 caps for La Vinotinto, has limited experience in European football. Two seasons with Anzhi Makhachkala in Russia and his debut campaign with Brescia last term was separated by a brief stint in Qatar with Al Ahli.

However, he was one of Brescia’s better performers in a difficult season, although he did lose his regular starting role toward the end of the season.

It would be a shock, but certainly not impossible. However, Leeds fans are probably right if they are doubting this potential deal.
