Report: Leeds United have shown interest in Alioski's national teammate, will cost £14.5m plus add-ons

The Athletic have claimed that Leeds have shown interest in Napoli midfielder Eljif Elmas over the past year. A teammate of Gjanni Alioski’s with North Macedonia, the midfielder is impressing in Serie A. However, Leeds are not the only club keen – with Dortmund and Benfica keen.

Elmas, 21, joined Napoli from Fenerbahce SK in the summer of 2019 and has since clocked up a whopping 80 appearances in two seasons. He has impressed for the Italians under Gennaro Gattuso – who has since left to join Fiorentina as manager. That is, despite being used in multiple areas.

Naturally a box-to-box midfielder, Elmas can also play deeper in front of the defence or in the final third as a 10. He has even been used on the left flank. It is claimed that Leeds have shown interest in the past year, but so have Dortmund and Benfica. Napoli will accept bids of £14.5million plus add-ons.

Elmas might just be the ideal midfield addition at Leeds

Leeds need a midfielder this summer. They need cover for Mateusz Klich and Stuart Dallas, both of whom are now in their thirties. They need cover for Kalvin Phillips – given Leeds have picked up just six points from a possible 27 without the England ace. A number 10 is also needed.

Celtic fans left short-changed by Sky Sports once again

Tyler Roberts has been inconsistent and Rodrigo has been in and out of the side. So, Leeds need a midfielder that can do all three roles and Elmas can do that. It was claimed back in December that Leeds had a big rejected. Still only 21 and available on the cheap, surely it is a no-brainer?
