Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb have claimed that Leeds United are ‘getting closer’ to the signing of Tottenham Hotspur defender Juan Foyth this summer – with the Whites ready to pay his eight-figure asking price.
Foyth, 22, has managed just 32 senior appearances for Tottenham since he joined the club from Argentine side Estudiantes in the summer of 2017 under Mauricio Pochettino. Since the arrival of Jose Mourinho, he has struggled.
Since Mourinho took over from Pochettino, Foyth managed just one Premier League start and only two outings in total. He is expected to leave Spurs in the coming months, with Leeds and Serie A clubs linked.
Now, the latest report claims Leeds are ‘getting closer’ to signing Argentina international Foyth – with the Whites willing to meet Tottenham’s asking price of £15million for the versatile defender, who can also play as a right-back.
TBR’s view – Foyth solid replacement for Ben White
White’s recent Instagram post is proof that the Brighton defender looks unlikely to return to Elland Road this summer, even on loan. He did leave the door open for a move, but the chances are that he will stay at Brighton.
So, Leeds need a ball-playing defender to replace White and Foyth is a decent replacement. Yes, he has made mistakes at Spurs – but he is still young and Marcelo Bielsa is renowned for getting the best out of his players.
