Leeds United’s hopes of signing Udinese star Rodrigo De Paul have taken a hit if reports from Italy are to be believed.
The Whites have been linked with a move for the Argentine midfielder in recent weeks but they are not alone in chasing what would be an expensive deal.
Fiorentina are also said to be keen on a move for the player. As reported by La Nazione, the Italian side’s sporting director Daniele Prade knows the player from his time at Udinese and it is reported that he wants to continue the ‘love affair’ in Florence.
The report also comments on Leeds United’s interest. They claim that the deal looked as good as done just a week ago however, they now suggest that Leeds’ chance of signing De Paul have been and gone for good.

A report from Mondo Udinese this week suggested that Leeds have had a €35 million (£32m) offer for the player rejected with his price-tag standing at €40 million (£36.5m).
La Nazione’s report claims that the Udinese owner Gino Pozzo will not be talked down from that price-tag and it could be that Leeds are simply not willing to pay that amount for the player, despite being a perfect recruit for Marcelo Bielsa’s team.
Clearly, De Paul is a much-envied quantity and Leeds are keen but it seems they may be facing a losing battle in the hunt to bring him to the club.
