Leeds United have now agreed a ‘significant’ fee for Celtic youngster, Leo Hjelde, according to reports from the Scottish Sun.

Hjelde, who has caught the eye at Parkhead, has been targeted by Marcelo Bielsa as he looks to continue to add more depth to his talent pool at Elland Road.

The Whites have tracked the teenager throughout the summer and now, it seems like they are close to agreeing a deal for the defender. The Scottish Sun claims that a ‘significant fee’ has been agreed to bring the young Norwegian to West Yorkshire.

Per the Sun’s report, Hjelde has been compared to Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk. That was the opinion of Ross County boss John Hughes, who sung the praises of the youngster during his loan spell last term.

Ange Postecoglou is thought to have been impressed with the performances and attitude of Hjelde. However, he is powerless to resist the youngster being drawn to Leeds.

Leeds have a fine record in recent season with younger players. The likes of Ian Poveda, Jamie Shackleton, and Illan Meslier have all made an impact at the club in recent seasons.

Leeds continue to build, Hjelde is a smart capture

Beyond the first-team and their brilliance, Marcelo Bielsa continues to build everything he can at Thorp Arch and Elland Road. Adding Hjelde, is just another step towards doing this.

Of course, there is a long way to go for Hjelde. This is a young player who needs time, work, and minutes to get to Premier League level.

But from the outside looking in, this seems another smart piece of business from the Whites.
