Leeds United are reportedly interested in Newcastle United’s Dwight Gayle.

According to the Daily Star, the Whites are set to move for the centre-forward if their current ace Kemar Roofe lives Elland Road.

It is understood that there is a two-way battle for Gayle, as Championship rivals Stoke City are also keen.

The report details that Newcastle boss Steve Bruce is prepared to grant a season-long loan exit.

Gayle spent last season out on loan with West Brom, where he scored 24 goals and supplied eight assists in 41 games across all competitions.

Leeds could look to add him to their squad if they lose Roofe, who the Daily Mail reports is in talks about a potential £7million move to Anderlecht.

TBR’s View:

Roofe, 26, is going to be a major loss if he departs for Belgium during the remainder of the transfer window and will leave a gap in Marcelo Bielsa’s squad.

The striker netted 15 times in just 34 games across all competitions last season and has been great at spearheading the Leeds attack.

But a backup plan of bringing in Gayle on loan to replace him could be genius.

Gayle has shown he’s a goal machine at Championship level and he could definitely help fill the void left by Roofe.

The 28-year-old would be brilliant competition for Patrick Bamford and is a guaranteed goalscorer.
