Leeds United are reportedly preparing to launch an opening offer to sign RB Leipzig midfielder Tyler Adams, with the American international likely to replace Kalvin Phillips in the squad.

According to Sky Germany, Leeds are readying a €15m (£12m) bid for 23-year-old Bundesliga star, with Adams believed to be interested in a move to the Premier League and reuniting with Jesse Marsch, who was key to the midfielder’s development during their time together with the New York Red Bulls.

Despite being a huge talent, Adams will be allowed to leave Leipzig this summer, with the versatile American not viewed by head coach Domenico Tedesco as a long-term member of the squad, hence why Leeds could be about to land the midfielder for as little as £15m.

A player who Marsch himself hailed as ‘special’, Adams’ arrival will likely see the Leipzig star replace Phillips in the Leeds squad, with the England international this Monday completing his transfer to Manchester City in a move that will be a huge blow for the Whites.

Indeed, Phillips has been one of the best midfielders in the Premier League since Leeds’ return to the top flight in 2020, and the 26-year-old’s departure will take an unbelievable player to replace his impact in the squad, something Adams will be tasked to do.

Next season will be a rough one for Leeds, especially with Raphinha also set to leave for either FC Barcelona or Chelsea, and for Adams, the potential Marsch signing will have to prove many fans and pundits wrong if he is to be a success at Elland Road.

Phillips’ departure will sting Leeds more than any other player in their squad, yet with Marsch looking to sign Adams, the American could land a coup of a player this summer if the 23-year-old hits the ground running at Elland Road ahead of what is going to be a tough season for the Whites.

After all, Adams and Marsch have worked together in MLS to incredible effect, and the pair, now both more mature and wiser, can once again thrive in the Premier League and hopefully keep Leeds up in what will be their toughest season yet since their return to the big leagues.
