Report: Leeds target Lyanco keen on Sporting move

Leeds United appear to be in danger of suffering another blow in the transfer market, with Gianluca Di Marzio reporting that Lyanco is keen on joining Sporting this summer.

The Whites missed out on Jonathan David earlier in the window. HLN reported that Marcelo Bielsa’s side were willing to pay £31.6 million to sign the Canadian. However, he snubbed a potential switch to Elland Road and has now joined Lille.

O Jogo meanwhile, recently claimed that Leeds are in the running to sign Torino defender Lyanco.

Coincidentally, Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Lille are also interested in the 23-year-old, who has represented both Serbia and Brazil at youth level.

It was, of course, from Torino that Leeds signed Pontus Jansson in 2016. But it appears that Lyanco may not follow a similar path – should he get his own way.

Di Marzio has suggested that the £22.6 million-rated youngster is keen to move to Portugal and join Sporting.

Torino reportedly want to hold onto Lyanco. However, he is said to prefer a move away. Unfortunately for Leeds, it would appear that that move may not see him end up in Yorkshire.

It is not clear how seriously Leeds are tracking Lyanco. But there is no question that they certainly need to sign a new centre-back this summer.

Ben White’s loan has come to an end. And Gaetano Berardi is set to be sidelined for some time.

Lyanco also offers versatility. He has featured in both full-back roles and in holding midfield during his brief career.

But Leeds appear to have plenty of work to do if they want to bring him to Elland Road as another admirer reportedly emerges as the front-runner for his signature.
