Leeds United have received a boost in their reported pursuit of Daniel Ayala, with the Daily Star suggesting that the Middlesbrough man will leave the Riverside Stadium this summer.
The Northern Echo recently reported that the Whites were monitoring Ayala’s situation with his contract with Boro expiring in the summer.
That report suggested that the centre-back’s future remained up in the air. However, the Daily Star has since suggested that Ayala’s situation is now a lot clearer.
According to the Daily Star, Ayala will leave Jonathan Woodgate’s side regardless of whether the club manage to stay up or not.
And it is suggested by the Star that a move to Leeds appeals to the Spaniard. The Daily Star notes that the Whites plan to target the 29-year-old no matter what division they find themselves in next term.
It is also suggested that Brighton are not willing to sell Leeds loanee Ben White.
TBR View – Ayala on free transfer could be shrewd business, but Leeds must be wary
Ayala has been an excellent performer in the Championship for a number of years. Thus, it is difficult to be too critical of Leeds making a move to sign him on a free transfer.
But Ayala will have big shoes to fill if White returns to Brighton. The youngster has been a revelation this season. And replacing him is going to be an incredibly difficult task.
And it must be noted that Ayala has not played since New’s Year Day due to injury. So there is obviously some additional risk attached to a potential move.
