Leeds United have reportedly made a move to try sign midfielder Rafinha from La Liga club Barcelona.

According to Spanish publication Sport, the Whites have started negotiations with them over a possible deal for the 27-year-old.

It is understood that Spanish giants Barcelona will stand firm over a £14.25m price tag, but the player’s future is not expected to be with them and he is keen on a move to the Premier League

Rafinha is a versatile midfielder that can play centrally or in wide areas, and could be a good fit at Elland Road considering his technical ability to keep the ball and also his high work-rate.

The left-footed Brazilian has earned two international caps for the South American giants, but did represent Spain at youth level earlier in his career before committing to Brazil.

He came through the prestigious academy at Barcelona and played 90 first-team games for them, but has spent a fair chunk of time out on loan in recent years.

Rafinha has managed 63 appearances across two different spells at Celta Vigo, as well as a short stint in Italy with Inter Milan.

TBR’s View:

Rafinha certainly didn’t look out of place when featuring in the Barcelona side, as he’s someone that is great with the ball at his feet and his dribbling is a real threat.

Leeds have already made two impressive signings in Rodrigo and Robin Koch as they prepare for life back in the Premier League, and Rafinha would be yet another marquee name to arrive at Elland Road if they can wrap up a deal.

His £14.2million valuation by Barcelona looks fair on paper and he would have the potential to slot nicely into Marcelo Bielsa’s system.
