Report: Leeds starlet Jamie Shackleton wanted on loan by Bournemouth
A report from The Athletic has shared Leeds United’s stance on Jamie Shackleton with clubs such as Bournemouth keen on taking the 21-year-old on loan this summer.
It is clear that Marcelo Bielsa rates Shackleton highly. The Argentinian handed the academy graduate his senior debut shortly after his arrival at Elland Road.
And Shackleton has pretty much been around the first-team fold ever since. He has seldom featured for the under-23s – despite his age.
Nevertheless, he has not yet managed to take that next step and become a more prominent fixture in Bielsa’s side.
In many ways, he was probably one player who somewhat suffered personally from Leeds getting promoted.
Shackleton has stepped up whenever called upon, including in the top flight. But he only saw out an entire 90 minutes once in the Premier League last year.
Bournemouth have already landed one Leeds prospect this summer. It was recently announced that the Cherries had taken Leif Davis on a loan that included an option to buy.
And it seems that he is not the only Leeds player on their radar.
The Athletic has suggested that they are also amongst Shackleton’s admirers. However, the report adds that he is very much in Leeds’s plans.
Coming season could be a crucial one for Shackleton at Leeds amid loan interest
It does seem that few players would please the fans more by earning a regular place in Bielsa’s side than Shackleton.
It is easy to see why the Leeds boss likes him. He is tenacious, energetic, versatile, and very good technically.
But it does feel that this season could be crucial for the youngster. If Leeds continue to kick on, it seems imperative that Shackleton features more prominently to show that he remains in the right place for his future.
Bielsa has previously shown that he will not make a selfish decision over a player’s career.
And if Shackleton does not play more regularly this season, Bielsa is surely unlikely to stand in his way should the starlet decide that he may need to consider his options.
