Leeds United have received a January boost with the Daily Mail reporting that the Championship promotion-chasers are set to win the race to sign Manchester City’s Ian Poveda.
Poveda has been linked with a potential move to Elland Road for much of the window.
However, the Whites’ hopes of signing the youngster appeared to suffer a possible setback with the Mail reporting that Torino also expressed an interest.
But it appears that Poveda has made a decision on his future. And it is good news for Marcelo Bielsa’s side.
The Mail reports that Poveda is close to joining Leeds with United striking a deal with the Premier League champions.
If the move goes through as now expected, the 20-year-old will become Leeds’s second signing of the window following the arrival of Elia Caprile.
TBR View – Poveda deal will come as relief to Leeds supporters
It will please a lot of the Elland Road faithful if Leeds can secure Poveda’s signature. Bielsa’s men are going through a poor run of form and the frustration is building.
It will be intriguing to see how the 20-year-old gets on. He is yet to make his mark in senior football. But he has been on the books of Barcelona and Arsenal, as well as Manchester City.
And the boost his arrival should provide could prove really important for Leeds.
There are further issues to address before the deadline passes. But Poveda’s arrival could act as a real catalyst as the Whites look for a turnaround.
