The Sun have claimed that Leeds United are set to complete a £1million deal to sign Wigan Atletic teenager Joe Gelhardt, with a deal expected to be announced next week for the striker.
Gelhardt, 18, has clocked up 21 senior appearances for Wigan and even scored a senior goal for the Latics during a 2-2 draw with Hull City. However, Wigan have entered administration and are looking to cash in.
England Under-18 international Gelhardt has been linked with numerous clubs following Wigan’s 12-point deduction, which resulted in relegation. The Sun previously claimed that Everton, Celtic and Tottenham were keen.
However, the latest report claims that after recent talks at Elland Road – Gelhardt is set to agree a £1million move to Leeds with a deal to be completed next week. He joins, after permanent deals for Illan Meslier and Helder Costa.

TBR’s view – Gelhardt a bargain at just £1m
To have already played more than 20 times at just 18 years of age for a club in the Championship certainly makes Gelhardt worthy of wonderkid status. It saw Jack Clarke join Tottenham for £10million last summer.
So to land Gelhardt – who has caps for England’s youth sides – for just £1million, is excellent business. Signing the striker from Wigan for such a bargain figure is stunning business from Victor Orta.
