Report: Leeds set sights on 6ft 4in talent who 'defends like Virgil and scores like Salah'

Leeds United have set their sights on Burnley defender Nathan Collins, according to talkSPORT.

The Whites have hit the ground running in the summer transfer window.

Leeds have already signed Brenden Aaronson and Rasmus Kristensen, and there could be more on the way.

Admittedly, Jesse Marsch has quite a few central defenders at his disposal already.

However, Collins can also play at right-back. His versatility could come in handy for Leeds.

And obviously there’s his age and talent – at 21, he’s already shown he has what it takes in the Premier League.

Last season, Collins seized his opportunity after injuries to James Tarkowski and Ben Mee.

He clocked up 19 Premier League appearances, even scoring twice.

Collins has also burst onto the international scene, winning four caps for Republic of Ireland.

He scored a wonder-goal against Ukraine earlier this week, weaving his way through their defence to slam home.

Fans on Twitter sung Collins’ praises, one saying he “defends like Virgil and scores like Salah”.

There have also been comparisons with the likes of Lionel Messi and Franz Beckenbauer.

As well as Leeds, the likes of Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers are also reportedly eyeing Collins.

“Who knows”

New Burnley boss Vincent Kompany will surely find it hard to keep the 6ft 4in talent beyond the summer.

The Clarets paid an initial £12m to Stoke City for his services in 2021.

Manchester United and Arsenal were also linked with Collins at the time.

Now, just 12 months later, he may end up changing clubs once again.

But with Collins’ contract running until 2025, the Clarets’ hand is strong in negotiations, and he won’t be going cheap.

Collins himself isn’t sure about his future.

“Who knows that question where I’ll be even in 10 days,” the Burnley Express quotes him as saying.

“I don’t know that myself so we will see what happens.”
