Report: Leeds see bid for Wilfried Gnonto rejected by Zurich
Leeds United have seen a first bid for Wilfried Gnonto rejected, with Calciomercato reporting that the Whites offered £3.4 million plus add-ons for the Italy international.
Gnonto appears to be a top target for the Whites in the final stages of the summer window. Reports have suggested that Jesse Marsch’s men have already agreed personal terms with the 18-year-old.
A five-year deal is in place. And a move is edging closer. However, Leeds will seemingly have to increase their bid for the forward to get a deal across the line.
According to Calciomercato, Leeds have made a £3.8 million bid for Gnonto. FC Zurich rejected the offer from the Premier League side.
Their asking price stands at at least £6.8 million.
Leeds have Gnonto bid rejected
It will be interesting to see what the coming days bring when it comes to Leeds and Gnonto. The fans are starting to become a little concerned that the Whites may now be done in the market.
Gnonto is obviously not the finished article. But he would definitely be another exciting signing from Leeds.
He is rapid. And it says a lot that he is already being included in Roberto Mancini’s plans at international level. Mancini has said he is a player who ‘can do everything‘.
Leeds are also not too far from Zurich’s asking price – if they have indeed made a bid. So it is not too much of a risk to get a deal across the line.
Leeds arguably need more depth in the final third. They were reminded of the risk of not signing anyone else at the weekend as Patrick Bamford limped off while Joe Gelhardt was already absent.
Even if those problems are not serious, the warning signs are there.
Certainly, there will be plenty of supporters hoping that a deal for Gnonto is possible.
