Leeds United are one of several Premier League clubs linked with Sam Johnstone, along with Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United.

But according to the Daily Mail, the Whites, the Hammers, Spurs or any other suitors would have to pay £18million if they want the talented goalkeeper’s services this summer.

West Bromwich Albion signed Johnstone in the summer of 2018 – after they had been relegated to the Championship – from Manchester United for a reported £6.5million fee.

The 28-year-old helped Albion back to the top flight last year and has done superbly despite his side’s struggles in the league.

Johnstone’s contract expires next summer and, with West Brom nine points adrift of safety with six games left, time is running out if they are to survive in the top flight.

Chances are the former England youth international won’t stay put at The Hawthorns in the Championship given he’s reported to have numerous Premier League sides after him.

But although Johnstone’s contract expires in just over 12 months’ time, the Baggies won’t let him go without a fight, hence the price tag.

TBR View:

Johnstone has made more saves than any other goalkeeper in the Premier League this season, an indication of the pressure he has been under this campaign.

Sam Allardyce told talkSPORT in December last year: “He’s one of the best. I think that’s pleasing to see as he’s one of the two most important people in your team.”

Even if West Brom do return to the Championship, it’s extremely unlikely that Johnstone will be playing in the second tier next season.

Meanwhile, Leeds have the talented Illan Meslier in their ranks, but he could really do with some strong competition, and Johnstone would certainly be a good shout.
