Leeds United were linked with Brenden Aaronson ahead of the January transfer window.

MLSsoccer.com claimed the Whites were just one of ‘many clubs’ eyeing the Red Bull Salzburg playmaker.

Now, The Athletic has reported that Leeds have in fact made an offer for Aaronson.

The Elland Road outfit has apparently tabled a £15million bid for the 21-year-old.

Salzburg rejected the Leeds offer, but the Whites ‘remain intent on signing the forward’, added The Athletic.

Leeds aren’t the only club eyeing Aaronson, however.

As well as the Whites, RB Leipzig and AC Milan are also apparently keen on the United States international.

Aaronson has three goals and seven assists in 26 appearances across all competitions this season for Salzburg.

He has 10 goals and 12 assists in in all competitions since signing from Philadelphia Union last January.

Aaronson cost the Austrian giants an initial £4.5million, breaking Union’s record for transfer fee received.

In addition, Union stand to receive £7.6million if certain incentives are met.

Aaronson has also won 15 caps for the United States, scoring five goals.

After joining Salzburg, Aaronson told their media team that Steven Gerrard was his role model growing up.

He also said he joined the club as they play “fast, direct and attacking football”, which he loves.

When it came to his style of football, Aaron said he’s about “a lot of creative work.

“I work hard, I’m aggressive, I like to pick holes in defences and provide assists.”

Aaronson would bolster Leeds ranks but Whites will struggle to land him – TBR View

There’s no doubt Aaronson is a star in the making and would be superb for Leeds.

However, he’s currently playing for a side all-but set for the Austrian title and playing in the Champions League last 16.

Aaronson will have the opportunity to make an even bigger name for himself against Bayern Munich.

If Leeds can sign him this month it would be superb, but it’ll definitely be a difficult one to pull off.
