Report: Leeds player Marsch says is a pleasure to work with now set to leave the club in January

Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch knows he’s got some tough decisions to make regarding his squad in January.

A report from the Yorkshire Evening Post suggests he’s already made his mind up about one player.

Leeds’ defence hasn’t been the best this season, conceding three of more goals on four separate occasions.

Marsch has been playing without a natural left-back for much of the season, deploying Pascal Struijk there instead.

Robin Koch has been ever-present at centre-back, and Marsch has rotated between Diego Llorente and Liam Cooper alongside him.

The only new addition to the back line has been Rasmus Kristensen, who has made the right-back spot his own.

His consistency has now sown fresh doubt on the futures of two of his back-ups.

Despite reports that he might leave, Luke Ayling will be staying at Leeds in January.

However, it now appears that young right-back Cody Drameh is set to leave Leeds in the upcoming window.

The 20-year-old has failed to make an impact on the first team under Marsch, and his Leeds future now looks in serious doubt.

Drameh is set to leave Leeds in January

The report suggests that Marsch wasn’t completely against Drameh leaving on loan in the summer, but the defender wanted to stay.

His chances have been limited to say the least, and he’s played more minutes for the under-21s than the first team.

After impressing on loan at Cardiff in the Championship, Drameh’s level is certainly above that of Premier League 2.

However, he’s too far down the pecking order to have a realistic chance of playing at Elland Road any time soon.

Marsch has admitted he enjoys working with the youngster, but will recognise his frustrations.

“He’s doing great,” Marsch said this summer.

“Cody and I had some tough conversations at the end of last year when we had him in for training.

“He had a very good experience at Cardiff and in his mind, maybe wanted to stay there. I challenged him to think about challenging himself to be here.

“He’s done that in a big way. It’s been a pleasure. I’ve seen him grow a lot in the last weeks. He’s performed well within the team. He’s fit well within the team.”

Drameh’s future is up in the air

A report from Fabrizio Romano suggested that Borussia Dortmund were interested in Drameh’s services.

It seems even more unlikely that Drameh will play for a Champions League side over Leeds, but it would be a fantastic opportunity.

His previous club Fulham are also reportedly in the market for a right-back.

It may not be completely out of the question that they consider bringing Drameh back to Craven Cottage if he’s set to leave Leeds in January.

The right-back’s contract runs out in 2024 and could be a smart investment for a Premier League or Championship club.

He could return to England’s second tier to guarantee first team football after already proving he’s good enough for that level.
