Leeds Live have claimed that a Leeds United player sent Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola ‘apoplectic’ during the second half of the Yorkshire side’s stunning 2-1 win over the Premier League leaders on Saturday afternoon, at The Etihad.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side produced their result of the 2020-21 campaign as Stuart Dallas scored an injury-time winner to win the match 2-1 despite going down to 10 men after Liam Cooper was sent off. Dallas had scored earlier, as did Ferran Torres.
The second-half saw Leeds defend deep and in numbers, allowing City to enter the final third before defending with their lives. It was a strategy that paid off, and the Whites came away with a stunning victory. Leeds played for territory, when they got the ball.
During the second half, Portugal international Helder Costa broke forward with the ball and intelligently, won a free-kick for his side after a foul by fellow Portuguese ace Joao Cancelo – to the utter despair of Guardiola. Leeds Live were in attendance.
They report: “The City contingent in the stands were bellowing at Cancelo not to foul the tricky winger. Costa backed into him, drew a nick and won the foul, bringing his entire team up the field for a rare set-piece chance. Guardiola was apoplectic.”
TBR’s view – Has Costa done enough to start against Liverpool?
Jack Harrison has enjoyed a wonderful campaign in the colours of Leeds, in what is his third season on loan at Elland Road. A recent dip in form saw him go out of the team for a couple of games – but he has since re-entered the starting line-up.
He offers work rate, aggression and plenty of creativity. Against Sheffield United, he scored and laid on an assist – setting up Phil Jagielka for the winner – or own goal. He has not done anything wrong and while Costa was brilliant, Harrison will come back in.
