According to a report from The Sun on Sunday (20/10; page 65), Leeds United have joined the race to sign Aaron Hickey, and the Whites plan to make a January bid for the Hearts left-back.
Hickey has established himself as one of the most exciting talents in the Scottish Premiership. He made his debut at 16 last season, and went on to put in a superb performance in the Scottish Cup final.
The Daily Mail reported earlier this week that Manchester City want Hickey. The Cityzens plan to offer the full-back back to Hearts on loan to seal a £1.5 million deal in January.
And it appears that Leeds have joined the race. The Sun on Sunday (20/10; page 65) reports that the Whites have been scouting the teenager, and plan to make their own move in the winter.
Manchester City’s interest says plenty about Hickey’s potential. But Leeds’s interest also tells its own story given the players the club let go in the summer.
The likes of Tom Pearce and Clarke Oduor look to have bright futures ahead of them. But Leeds decided to let them leave the club as their paths to the first-team were blocked.
Hickey will not find it easy getting into the side ahead of Barry Douglas and Gjanni Alioski either. But the signs suggest that he has the talent to prove an inspired signing for Marcelo Bielsa’s side if Leeds do manage to win the race.
