Report: Leeds now want to sign exciting £5m 'orchestrator' likened to Toni Kroos

Leeds United have once again set their sights on Standard Liege’s Nicolas Raskin, according to Voetbal Nieuws.

The 21-year-old was linked with a switch to Elland Road over the last two transfer windows.

Back in January, the Sunday Mirror (16/1; page 73) claimed that Raskin to Leeds was effectively a done deal.

Obviously this turned out not to be the case.

Then, speculation linking Leeds and Raskin resurfaced in summer for the €5m-rated (£4.5m) player, but again, no move materialised.

The Whites ended up losing Kalvin Phillips, though they did sign two replacements in Tyler Adams and Marc Roca.

However, a change in Raskin’s circumstances means Leeds could potentially make it third time lucky.

On Monday, Fabrizio Romano tweeted that the 21-year-old had been relegated to Liege’s second team in wake of failed contract talks.

Raskin took to Twitter to explain he has not received any offer from the Jupiler Pro League side.

He also said he showed no willingness to leave his employer in the summer even though they want to sell him to another Belgian club.

Now, VN – via Sport Witness – has provided more information on Leeds and their reported interest in Raskin.

Liege are apparently willing to sell the player if ‘any interesting offer’ arises.

Alongside Leeds, the likes of Club Brugge, SC Braga, Genoa, Fiorentina, Marseille, Lille and Rangers are ‘potential buyers’.

It’s claimed Raskin ‘prefers’ a move to the Premier League, but only Leeds ‘showed interest in him’.

‘Tactically intelligent, versatile and charismatic’

Raskin isn’t a bad shout for Leeds, all things considered.

He is a young, talented player who probably won’t cost too much, what with his uncertain future at Liege and an expiring contract.

In addition, Leeds now play with two slightly deeper central midfielders, so there’ll be room in the squad for another.

Back in 2018, Football Talent Scout likened Raskin to Toni Kroos, saying he’s an ‘orchestrator’.

Going in more detail, Jacek Kulig deemed Raskin a ‘tactically intelligent, versatile and charismatic midfielder, gifted with good ball skills, mobility, distribution, vision, and ability to read the game’.
