Leeds United are one of three clubs reportedly eyeing Bordeaux’s Sekou Mara.

According to French outlet Foot Mercato, the Elland Road outfit has been ‘seduced’ by the striker.

As well as Leeds, Newcastle United and Aston Villa are reportedly in pursuit of Mara.

Foot Mercato – via Sport Witness – spoke of Bordeaux’s financial issues in wake of their relegation from Ligue 1.

Due to those financial problems, it is reportedly unclear as to which division they’ll be playing in next season.

And while they haven’t sold any players, this may change, with Leeds, Newcastle and Villa coming forward for Mara.

While the Premier League trio haven’t made any offers, they’re apparently very keen on the 19-year-old.

Newcastle’s interest is reportedly ‘very concrete’, while Leeds and Villa are also interested.

Mara – whose contract lasts until 2025 – is said to have a €10m (£8.5m) price tag.

“Could well be the future of French football”

Leeds have done superbly in the summer transfer window, but there’s scope to bring in another striker.

As per Leeds Live, competition up front has been a priority all summer for Victor Orta and Jesse Marsch.

This is due to Patrick Bamford’s long-term absence last year.

Mara, who scored six goals in 26 Ligue 1 last term, is a talented young prospect and a good shout for Leeds.

Scouting website Breaking the Lines lauded the youngster in an analysis piece earlier this year.

‘So far throughout his career, Mara has shown a good attitude and willingness to learn and improve,’ they wrote.

‘If he continues on this trajectory there is no reason why he cannot go on to become one of the most important players for France.

‘He has excellent goal-scoring abilities, fantastic vision, and passing capability and is more than willing to work defensively which suits the high-pressing style of play we are seeing throughout Europe in recent years.

‘Wherever Sekou Mara goes next, he is one to keep an eye out for as he could well be the future of French football.’

Breaking the Lines also lauded his ‘great ability to evade his marker that is somewhat reminiscent of a young Thierry Henry’.
