Report: Leeds now show interest in signing 'outstanding' £20m player from Manchester City

Leeds United have shown an interest in signing Yangel Herrera from Manchester City, The Sun say.

From the Etihad to Elland Road?

Leeds and West Ham United are both keen on the midfielder, who is said to be valued at around £20 million by City.

Herrera has actually been at City since 2017, but he is yet to make any impact at the Etihad.

He has, however, impressed on a series on loan spells, with La Liga expert Terry Gibson labelling him ‘outstanding’ [TalkSport) – which has led to Leeds now keeping their eyes on him.

Phillips cover?

Herrera’s key strengths are in his defensive qualities, so if he was brought to Leeds he may well arrive as cover for Kalvin Phillips.

Currently Leeds have limited options to help cover for Phillips in case of injury, but Herrera’s arrival could help in that regard.

The sticking point is likely to come down to his price-tag though.

At £20 million, Herrera would be an expensive purchase for Leeds, given that he wouldn’t be guaranteed of his place in Marcelo Bielsa’s line-up.

And it may be that Victor Orta has to negotiate a reduction in City’s asking price before any transfer looks likely to take place.
