Leeds United’s apparent number one summer target, Rodrigo De Paul, is now wanted by former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte at Inter Milan.

De Paul was courted by Leeds all summer but ultimately ended up staying in Italy. Indeed, 90Min claimed a £40m asking-price was eventually too much for the Whites, who moved on to other players.

However, the Argentinian is likely still on the radar of Victor Orta, given he was apparently the club’s main target.

But any hope Leeds might have of rekindling their interest could be hindered by Conte and Inter Milan. Calciomercato claims that Inter are keeping a close eye on De Paul with an eye on a January move.

It is believed De Paul’s price tag has dropped to less than £30m now, per the report. Whether that would put Leeds back into contention remains to be seen.

And that is the interesting question you can pose at Leeds when it comes to the January window. They have enjoyed a largely impressive if not inconsistent start to life in the Premier League.

The problem now is do they chuck money at it and try and build, or simply hope they have enough in the squad to consolidate?

De Paul is a fine midfield player but Leeds have defensive issues at the moment. It might be, then, that spending near £30m on De Paul isn’t the smartest use of club funds in the winter window.
