Leeds United have seemingly received a boost amid their recent links with Jordan Lukaku, with the Daily Mail reporting that the left-back is keen on moving to the Premier League this summer.
Italian outlet Il Messaggero reported late last month that the Belgian was one of five Lazio players Leeds asked about as they continue their preparations for life back in the Premier League.
The report did not offer any update on whether the Biancocelesti were willing to let Lukaku leave the club. However, it now appears that he could indeed be on the move this summer.
According to the Daily Mail, the defender wants to move to England to boost his chances of making Belgium’s squad for next summer’s European Championships.
And the Mail notes that Lazio want just £5 million for the 26-year-old. In fact, they are even reportedly open to considering a loan move.
TBR View: Lukaku move still appears to be a gamble for Leeds
Lukaku has started to show that his previous injury problems are behind him. And it does appear that he will not cost a significant amount at all this summer.
Nevertheless, it would arguably still be a big gamble for Leeds to make a move. The Whites have plenty of depth at left-back in the likes of Stuart Dallas, Barry Douglas, Gjanni Alioski and Leif Davis.
So it would surely need to be a special player who prompted the club to strengthen their options in that position further.
Leeds fans will trust Marcelo Bielsa if he does indeed want Lukaku this summer. But perhaps it would still appear to be a risk if the Whites were the ones to offer the full-back the chance to play in the Premier League.
