Report: Leeds likely to loan Junior Firpo
Leeds United’s move for Junior Firpo is likely to be an initial loan with a view to a permanent move, according to a report from the Yorkshire Evening Post.
Firpo looks to be close to becoming the Whites’ first signing of the summer. The 24-year-old is Victor Orta’s top left-back target.
It was claimed in Spain that Leeds are set to announce a deal for the Barcelona man in the next 24 to 48 hours.
That report suggested that the Premier League side have agreed a fee of £12.9 million for the left-back.
However, perhaps there may be a little more negotiating to do before Firpo is at Elland Road holding a shirt.
According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, the move is actually likely to be a loan deal.
It is likely to be on similar terms to the move that saw Leeds loan Jack Harrison.
The Whites have the option to buy the Manchester City winger. And they are expected to take up that option imminently.
Leeds set to make big statement with Firpo deal – whether it’s a loan or permanent deal
Leeds absolutely needed a new left-back this summer. Doubts remain over Gjanni Alioski’s future with the club.
Whether Alioski stays or not, signing Firpo would be a big statement.
The youngster is clearly a major talent. He has spent the last two years as Jordi Alba’s understudy at the Nou Camp.
And if they can bring him in on loan, it may prove a masterstroke – particularly if they end up with the option to sign him permanently.
