Report: Leeds leading race for £13m World Cup midfielder, he really wants January move

Leeds United have been linked with Torino’s Sasa Lukic in recent days.

Tuttosport – via Tuttomercatoweb and Sport Witness – recently claimed that the Whites have ‘not hidden their interest’ in the Serbia international.

Now, it looks as though Leeds may actually be leading the race for Lukic, who appears eager to change clubs in January.

As well as the Whites, AS Roma are apparently in the race for the 26-year-old.

Forza Roma have now reported on Lukic’s situation, claiming he’s ‘now determined to put his feet down to leave’.

Both Leeds and Roma ‘would be in the front row’ for the £13million-rated midfielder.

However, the Whites have an advantage, namely that the Italians do ‘not have that amount to spend in January’.

Better yet for Leeds, Lukic will reportedly ‘have a direct confrontation with the Torino management to ask for the transfer’.

‘Off-the-ball movement and availability all over the pitch’

Lukic seems like a pretty good shout for Leeds.

He is a player in his peak years, with experience at the highest level, who seems eager to move and won’t break the bank.

Scouting website Breaking the Lines recently previewed the Serbia squad ahead of the World Cup, and Lukic gets a mention.

‘Gudelj can be found in the bottom right corner under ‘high retention anchormen’, which describes his role to a tee,’ they wrote.

‘Now, if you look just to the left, you can find another Serbian midfielder, namely Sasa Lukic.

‘With Gudelj out injured during the last international break, Lukic took his chance.

‘He was asked to replace the anchorman and did so, in his own way.

‘Lukic is great at finding pockets of space to help connect players in different phases of the attack

‘Obviously, there are several differences between them, but the main one is movement.

‘While Gudelj is fairly static and barely leaves his own half, one of Lukic’s main qualities is his off-the-ball movement and availability all over the pitch.’
