Leeds United are currently in pole position to sign Nicolas Gonzalez, thanks to Marcelo Bielsa, according to a report from the Daily Mirror.
The Whites want the Stuttgart striker this summer. The Mirror reports that Bielsa had the 22-year-old scouted for much of the second-half of last season.
The Mirror reports that a number of clubs are planning to rival Leeds for Gonzalez’s signature, including Borussia Dortmund, Napoli, AC Milan, Roma and Lazio.
However, it has been suggested that the Championship winners are the favourites to sign the £20 million-rated Argentine – thanks to Bielsa.
The Mirror notes that the chance to work with the Leeds boss in the Premier League leaves the Whites leading the race.
And they are said to be confident about their chances of bringing the youngster to Elland Road.
TBR View: Leeds would make major statement with Gonzalez move
Gonzalez went into this summer off the back of an outstanding season in Germany’s second tier. He scored 14 goals in the league as Stuttgart also sealed promotion.
The list of clubs reportedly chasing his signature says a lot about his potential. The likes of Dortmund and Lazio can offer Champions League football next season. Meanwhile, Milan and Roma will also be playing in Europe.
So it says a lot that Leeds lead the race. And it would be a big statement if the Whites can get a deal across the line.
