Leeds United have become the latest team to join the race to sign Brighton and Hove Albion defender Shane Duffy, according to a report from The Scottish Mail on Sunday (16/8; page 156).
The Whites are hoping to bolster their centre-back ranks ahead of their return to the Premier League. And it appears that most of their attention has been taken up trying to get Ben White to return following his superb loan move.

Sky Sports reported earlier this month that Leeds have had two bids rejected for White. And The Sun has now suggested that the Seagulls are looking to agree a new contract with the 22-year-old.
The Scottish Mail on Sunday (16/8; page 156) has suggested that Leeds have now turned their attention to White’s Brighton teammate Duffy.

However, they appear to have some work to do before they are in the driving seat for his signature.
The Scottish Mail on Sunday has suggested that the 28-year-old wants to join Celtic on loan. But the report does note that a £2 million loan fee along with Duffy’s wages could be a problem for the Hoops.
It is also suggested that Brighton are less keen to sanction a loan when some of his Premier League admirers are willing to make permanent moves.
TBR View: Duffy could be a solid signing for Leeds
Duffy – who earns £40,000-a-week, according to Spotrac – has been a key player for much of Brighton’s stay in the Premier League. He was however, pushed into a less prominent role last season.
Should Leeds not manage to bring White back, Duffy would arguably be a shrewd signing for Marcelo Bielsa’s men.
It is not clear how serious Leeds’s interest is. Many fans will still be hoping that they ultimately have little reason to target Duffy because they land his teammate instead.
But it looks to be a smart move to also look at the Republic of Ireland international.
