Report: Leeds interested in Red Bull Salzburg striker Noah Okafor
Leeds United are interested in signing Noah Okafor, with Calciomercato reporting that they are vying with Inter Milan and Borussia Dortmund for the young forward.
Okafor opened Red Bull Salzburg’s Champions League campaign in some style on Tuesday. The 22-year-old scored a ‘wonderful‘ solo goal to put the Austrian side ahead against AC Milan.
Milan would equalise. But there is little doubt that the Switzerland international was able to outshine a certain Charles De Ketelaere, who also started in Salzburg.
And it seems that Leeds may have had their eye on that game. According to Calciomercato, the Whites are battling with Inter and Dortmund for Okafor.
He has previously attracted interest from the Premier League. TEAMtalk reported in January that Newcastle had the youngster on their list as they looked to sign a new forward.
Leeds interested in Noah Okafor
Obviously, joining Dortmund or Inter will be tempting for Okafor. But Leeds may fancy their chances of springing a surprise and agreeing a future deal.
Jesse Marsch was in charge of Red Bull Salzburg when the striker joined from Basel. And obviously, Leeds have now signed two of his former teammates in Brenden Aaronson and Rasmus Kristensen.
Leeds still need to sign another striker. Their failure to do so infuriated supporters on deadline day.
The arrival of Wilfried Gnonto should reap rewards further down the line. But he is not a player expected to play a key role this season.
Okafor has started the season in fine form. His strike against Milan was his fifth of the campaign in all competitions, with four coming in the top-flight.
If he continues at this rate, you would certainly imagine that it could be a busy January for Okafor.
