It appears that anyone who expected Leeds United to take it easy during the remaining weeks of the transfer window is about to be horribly mistaken, with the Daily Mail reporting that the Whites are in talks to sign Josko Gvardiol.

Marcelo Bielsa saw Rodrigo Moreno and Robin Koch added to his squad over the weekend. But Leeds are seemingly keeping their foot on the accelerator.

The Telegraph suggested on Sunday that the newly-promoted side had made £25 million-rated Rodrigo De Paul their number one midfield target.

And the Daily Mail has now reported that the Whites are also discussing a potential move for Gvardiol.

The 18-year-old – who was born a few days after Robbie Fowler and Robert Pires scored in a 1-1 draw between Leeds and Arsenal – is currently playing in the Dinamo Zagreb first-team.

The Daily Mail notes that Bayern Munich made enquiries for the centre-back in May.

Gvardiol is predominantly a centre-back. However, he is also capable of playing at left-back.

TBR View: Gvardiol can evoke Ben White memories if he joins Leeds

Leeds have already replaced Ben White during this window after securing Koch. But Gvardiol looks to be a player who has an incredibly bright future ahead of him.

He is composed on the ball and reads the game superbly. He is only 18, but he already has the stature to not be bullied off the ball.

And there is one particular aspect of his game which may evoke memories of White’s stunning loan spell.

Gvardiol is outstanding at driving out from the back with the ball and going on a purposeful run forward. He is not afraid to attempt an ambitious pass either.

The likes of Rodrigo, Koch and maybe even De Paul look to be fantastic players who could make a serious impact this season.

But a deal for Gvardiol – if talks prove successful – has the potential to be the most inspired of the lot in years to come.
